This course is suitable for students with no previous experience in jewellery-making.

Course Aims: The course aims to introduce and develop the practical skills we use for working precious materials in contemporary jewellery making.

Course details: You'll be walking home with the most precious ring on your finger at the end of this exciting weekend! Experiment with hammering techniques, learn how to size a ring, cut intricate patterns - You will explore a range of approaches to texturing, shaping and forming metal, completing several experimental rings in gilding metal, before working in sterling silver to produce your final design.

Techniques include: texturing of metals; ring sizing; drilling, piercing and filing metal; silver soldering; forming; forging; polishing.

The course fee covers the cost of all materials (including silver).

S05a. Experiment with DELFT CASTING

This course requires intermediate skills in jewellerymaking to make best use the techniques involved

Student numbers are limited to 6 to ensure good access to specialist equipment and tutor support.

Course details: Student will experiment with a variety of approaches to casting using the 'delft' sand method, first finding and then developing suitable forms to create a mold for casting in silver. It is anticipated that students will produce a range of progressive test pieces which could form the basis of a charm necklace or bracelet.

Techniques include: Basic wax modelling, and the use of other resistant materials to create an 'original' from which a mold can be taken; working with delft clay; effective sprues and risers; working with molten silver.

Precious materials must be purchased in advance and you will be provided with a shopping list and a supplimentary information pack when you book your place on the course.

These FREE Introductory family workshops aim to get children involved in making and enjoying their creativity.

Course details: An exciting opportunity for you and your child to make fabulous objects in metal using the cuttlefish casting technique: Design a pendant or medal in metal. Carve it. Cast it. Drill and polish it. Wear it!

At Flux Studios we provide a supportive environment where families / children and their carers can actively engage with creative and craft processes in the professional environment of an artist studio. Projects are tailored to suit children having no prior experience, with initial focus on free experimentation with material and technique. Students then put their newfound experiences into producing a final piece of jewellery or sculpture.

Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Suitable for children 6+

 

Flux Studios is a wheelchair accessible venue.
