Study mode: Tuesday mornings, 3hrs per week Total hours: 36 hours of workshop time Course costs: £165 This course is suitable for students with intermediate and advanced jewellery making skills.Course Aims: The course aims to introduce and develop the practical skills we use for working precious materials in contemporary jewellery making. Students are encouraged to keep a sketchbook to record ideas and experiences, to inform the design process. Course details: This course will assist you on an one-to-one basis, providing the tutoring, tools and equipment required to achieve your personal objectives. You will have the opportunity to improve existing skills, also developing new skills by exploring new techniques. As the course progresses you can end up producing rings, bangles and brooches, experimental jewellery, art pieces etc. In addition, throughout these courses I introduce a new theme or technique to the group, to stimulate new ways of working. Theme: The group focus for this term will be ‘Etching‘. As well as experimenting with more traditional stop-out techniques we will look at photo-etching as a means of transferring patterns or images onto metal. Study mode: Thursday evenings, 3hrs per week Times: 6pm – 9pm Course costs: £165 This course is suitable for students with basic skills in jewellery-making, as well as for beginners.Course Aims: The course aims to introduce and develop the practical skills we use for working precious materials in contemporary jewellery making. Students are encouraged to keep a sketchbook to record ideas and experiences, to inform the design process. Course details: Through a series of short, fun projects you will learn how to design and make jewellery. Beginning with cuttlefish casting you will explore casting as a method for creating 3D forms in pewter. Subsequent projects include making a ring or bangle using copper or gilding metal (you may also use silver if you wish to purchase precious materials). Over the duration of the 12 week course students will make 5 – 10 pieces of jewellery, also gaining a firm grounding in design processes and studio experience. As the course progresses students may wish to experiment with more complex casting methods, also incorporating other materials (perpex, glass, wood, found materials) in their pewter catsings to add colour/contrast to their designs. This course is suitable for students with no previous experience in jewellery-making. Course Aims: The course aims to introduce and develop the practical skills we use for working precious materials in contemporary jewellery making. Students are encouraged to keep a sketchbook to record ideas and experiences, to inform the design process. Course details: Through a series of short, fun projects you will learn how to design and make jewellery. You will explore a variety of ways to cut, shape and join sheet metal to make 3D forms for jewellery. Techniques include: piercing, drilling, filing, annealing, forming, forging, silver soldering, polishing. In addition to producing experimental test pieces you will design and make a matching set, eg pendant and earrings (or similar). |

| About your tutor, Vicky Forrester.About your tutor, Vicky Forrester.Vicky Forrester is practicing jeweller with 23 years of experience in the contemporary jewellery field. She has exhibited my work extensively in the UK and abroad through various specialist galleries (Electrum, Lesley Craze, Flow, ProArte Monaco etc. Vicky has a BA Hons degree in Silversmithing and metalwork (Camberwell, 1990), and a Post Graduate Certficate in Education (Goldsmiths’, 1994). Vicky has also taught jewellery making courses in a variety of contexts for the last 13 years – at community and further education colleges in London. (Community Education Lewisham, Morley college, Lambeth college, Westminster Adult Education Service).
